June 2019 Life and Content Updates
Good morning friends.
Despite limited success with aggressive content scheduling in the past (like that one time I tried to blog every single day in March 2017 and failed miserably), I’ve established pretty aggressive goals for my content this June.
You may have noticed that I skipped the April and May monthly reviews here and at Going Places Media. While I love having a review to look back on to see where my goals, blogs and social media feeds are showing progress (and what areas I need to work on), I noticed that not much was happening on a monthly basis to move the needle.
For this reason, I decided to switch to quarterly reviews. They should be a bit more entertaining to read, since I can make more progress in three months than in one month (hopefully).
Which brings us back to June 2019.
Because June is the last month of a busy quarter, I have high hopes for this month. April and May have been a bit slow on both the content goals and personal goals fronts, so this month needs to be big.
What should you expect?
I created a content schedule that includes 26 posts total in the month of June: 13 here and 13 on the Going Places Media blog. Aside from writing these posts, you can expect me to be more annoying than usual on my social media feeds while I promote all this new content!
At this point, I have about 8 posts in solid draft status that need final edits... so true to form, I have a bit of a ways to go with this aggressive content plan. But today is Sunday, so I’m squeezing in a bit of writing time this morning before heading to brunch (priorities).
Some posts I feel that I owe you and/or just want to make sure I write this month are:
My birthday post. After celebrating my birthday in early May, things got crazy like they normally do. So I’m a bit behind on writing my annual birthday post, but expect to see it this month at some point.
A novel about balancing blogging with a full-time job on Going Places Media. I’ve been working on this post for a while, and I’m excited to get it out there and hopefully help my friends living this crazy blog-and-work lifestyle.
A round-up from my trip to Chicago in early May. The first trip of 2019 is officially in the books (now I just need to write about it!)
Some ideas for creating blog a content plan or content calendar. I’m trying to keep my content about blogging off this blog (aside from this post, I guess), so expect some more blogging content over at Going Places Media this month.
What else is new on the blogs?
This blog celebrated its three-year anniversary in March and went through a pretty major redesign (two more topics I owe you a blog post on... I’ll add them to the list!) I’m auditing all my old content to make sure the links and formatting are working with the updated design, and that has been a JOB (but I’m hoping to be done by the end of June). I also updated the design of the Going Places Media blog a bit to fit more with the direction that site is headed. This is one of the side effects of starting something when you don’t know what it is going to be yet: sometimes, your initial thoughts on design don’t fit as well as you thought they would (but honestly, seeing what it will become as it grows is the fun part).
What else is new in general?
Life in May has a tendency to get out of control for some reason. In addition to my own birthday, I have several birthdays in my family and friend group. Work always seems to be hellishly busy, and this May I also decided to take some time off work to complete a home improvement project and travel to Chicago in the same week... which was arguably productive, but not a time period I’ll look back on and describe as “relaxing”. Primarily, I feel like I haven’t even taken time to acknowledge the fact that I just turned 29. In addition to that birthday post I owe you here on the blog, I haven’t even written my annual birthday journal entry yet at this point.
This weekend, I’m making a concerted effort to slow down a bit. I’ve spent a lot of time with friends, and less time than I probably should have doing anything “productive” on my house or blogs.
As mentioned throughout this post, this is shaping up to be a busy month... so I think that trying to get things balanced a bit before jumping into it will be time well spent in the long run.
Hope you are also having a relaxing weekend!
And as always, thanks for reading.
